چکیده

Dear Editor, I note in the “Antibiotics: Choices for Common Infections” booklet provided with the August 2013 edition of Best Practice Journal, that amoxicillin with clavulanic acid is recommended as an alternative agent for treating UTI in children. I would be interested in understanding the rationale for this recommendation, given the poor oral absorption and urinary excretion of clavulanic acid compared with amoxicillin.

Aetiology of community-acquired urinary tract infection and antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of uropathogens isolated.

INTRODUCTION Antibiotic resistance among uropathogens causing urinary tract infection (UTI) is increasing worldwide. In most cases of UTI, family physicians can provide empirical treatment without the benefit of a pre-therapy urine culture. Knowledge of the aetiology and antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of uropathogens is important in order to determine the best empiric treatment option. T...
